Tucked away in the heart of the Blackmore Vale, Okeapple House offers relaxing bed and breakfast in an unrivalled setting, with stunning views across the Dorset countryside. The main part of the house dates back to the 17thC when it was home to a family of agricultural workers. Nearby is the village of Belchalwell, with its ancient church, while the market town of Sturminster Newton lies 10 minutes’ drive away. To the north there is Shaftesbury, with its famous Gold Hill and narrow streets containing an attractive mix of curiosity shops and hostelries.
Accommodation at Okeapple is provided in a self-contained cottage with one double bedroom and fully-fitted bathroom, plus a twin room which is available for families or close friends who don’t mind sharing the bathroom. Breakfast is a highlight and is served in the main house where the menu typically includes fresh fruit, cereal and a full cooked Dorset farmhouse breakfast. And depending upon the season, we may throw in the odd special treat! All our food is locally sourced wherever possible and we use our own hens’ eggs. The chickens live within crowing distance outside and you may also catch sight of our Albanian donkeys who like to take an interest in whatever is going on. So, too, do their companions who are a pair of Welsh Black Mountain ewes and whose job it is to keep the grass trimmed.
Whether you plan to stay for a week or just one right, you are always assured of a warm welcome at Okeapple House, which was known in former times as Hideaway Cottage. Come and find out why.
